"The NIA team is in Mumbai since Saturday and is gathering details pertaining to the activities of Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana. The NIA has recorded the statements of those who were in touch with Headley during his stay in the city," a senior police source told PTI.
The move will come in view of the busting of the Lashker-e-Tayiba plot, in which the Pakistan-based terror group was planning to use Pakistan-born US national David Coleman Headley and Canadian passport holder Tahawwur Hussain Rana to launch terror attacks in India.
NIA's investigations cover more aspects as compared to the US probe. The investigation in the US dealt with the broader role, which is alleged to have been played by Rana for the 26/11 attack. However, since it was a crime that was committed in India, the NIA has been dealing with the finer aspects of the case.
Besides the National Defense College in New Delhi, Somnath temple in Gujarat and certain Bollywood stars and Shiv Sena leaders in Mumbai were also the targets of banned LeT, which was planning to carry out strikes with the help of two Chicago-based residents of Pakistani origin, the FBI has said.
A team of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, headed by its chief Robert Mueller, will visit New Delhi on November 18 to investigate the Indian links of David Headley -- the Lashkar-e-Tayiba operative arrested in Chicago in early October.During its two-day visit, the team will probe the US citizen's links with the LeT and also try to find out information about the terror network he allegedly set up in India, said sources.

David Coleman Headley, the Pakistani-American Lashkar-e-Tayiba operative is being deposed before a Mumbai court on Monday through video conference.
'India simply wasn't prepared for the fact that a natural-born American could be organising a major terror plot in their country. And they didn't look for people like him.' 'Headley is one of the most complex and interesting terrorists of the last many years.'
The Lashkar-e-Tayiba operative also revealed about his training while he deposed in front of a Mumbai court via video link.
